Dimensions Key Features

3D Artwork Tools || 3D Object Design || Editing Controls || Integration

Create 3D artwork using the tools you already know

Even if you are new to Adobe Dimensions as a Windows or Macintosh user, you'll find features you know well from using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. To expedite Adobe Dimensions proficiency, the software uses a familiar interface, with terminology, tools, keyboard commands, and dialog boxes modeled after Adobe applications.

  • Use your favorite Pen and Text tools to create basic 2D shapes or paths and text. You can also import 2D artwork from Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or other design programs.
  • Convert your 2D elements to 3D by revolving and extruding or by adding beveled edges; objects remain editable even after they're converted to 3D.
  • Draw basic 3D shapes (primitives), including cubes, spheres, cones, and cylinders directly in Adobe Dimensions.

Design sophisticated 3D objects with ease

Take advantage of the breadth of creative tools Adobe Dimensions puts at your fingertips for creating stunning 3D effects. Adobe Dimensions wields many new features for faster, more versatile 3D object modeling and rendering. One of the most important of these advances, unique to Adobe Dimensions, is the ability to wrap raster images, as well as 2D vector artwork, on any 3D surface. Just drag and drop artwork from Adobe Illustrator (or other drawing program) or Adobe Photoshop (or other image editing program). Adobe Dimensions offers more flexibility than raster-format-only 3D programs and a significantly shorter learning curve.

  • Map 2D raster or vector artwork onto 3D objects for amazing textures and special effects. The software then automatically renders the 3D image.
  • Interpenetration of objects allows you to combine simple shapes to form complex objects.
  • Apply process and custom colors to objects. Import or export custom colors to or from Adobe Illustrator.
  • Customize shading with ambient, highlight, or shininess controls, and specify shade colors.
  • Position lights freely, at an angle, or from behind. Apply unlimited light sources and individual intensities.
  • View objects from multiple positions, including front, back, left, right, bottom, top, and isometric, or set custom angles.
  • Set custom camera angles for viewing and output.

Powerful editing controls streamline otherwise tedious tasks

The extensive new and existing editing features included in Adobe Dimensions provide greater control when defining attributes and arranging 3D objects. The ability to edit in a preview mode speeds up the design process. The new Object Browser simplifies object management by providing a single repository for object attributes and a place to name, show, hide, lock, and unlock objects.

  • Edit work interactively in different preview modes, whether working in the 2D or 3D window. You can apply any changes or modifications in any mode and preview final results.
  • Hide objects with the Object Browser so you can work on an isolated area and enjoy faster screen redraw.
  • Group and ungroup objects or move them to another group with the Object Browser.
  • Use the new alignment commands to simplify and speed aligning two or more objects in 3D space.
  • Return as often as you like to your base art to alter shapes, change colors, and edit text or bevels.
  • Get even greater object alignment control with the three new rotation tools that constrain object rotation to the x, y, or z axis.
  • Position objects easily with alignment commands.
  • Easily create and edit masks in your artwork with two new commands, Make Mask and Release Mask.
